It is connected to the city of Aveiro by a branch of the A1 motorway, and to Agueda by the IP5 highway. The economy of the municipality is based on agriculture and industry. The present Mayor is Luís Miguel Correia, elected by the Socialist Party. The municipal holiday is May 1.
